Filipinas - Anti-union discrimination (2013)

The President of the Hong Kong-Shanghai Banking Corporation Employees’ Union (HSBCEU), a vocal critic of HSBC’s outsourcing programme was dismissed as a result of his criticism of management.

On 15 January 2013, union officials from the PMI Faculty and Employees Union Alberto Porlacin, Joseph Nelson Sarabia, Violeta Dano, Nelson Estano, Victorino Cabalit, and Joel Langcamon were dismissed by PMI- Bohol Colleges. There was no valid justification for dismissal. The termination came after the union engaged in negotiations over issues such as benefits, work schedules, and grievance procedures. PMI Colleges Bohol increased security and threated the leader of the Student Body Council with dismissal should he support the strike which was announced as a result of the dismissals.
