On 7 June, the police arrested five employees of SiderPerú Gerdau for taking part in a strike called in protest at the company’s determination to obstruct collective bargaining. The union representing SiderPerú employees, Sindicato de Empleados de SiderPerú, also denounced the anti-union policy pursued by the company during 2016 and 2017, which included the dismissal, by June 2017, of 180 union leaders and members.
