Pakistán - Dismissal for strike action (2013)

More than 400 young doctors who had participated in a strike to protest about criminal cases lodged against their colleagues in the wake of the Gujranwala DHQ hospital incident were dismissed. Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had promised to withdraw the actions against the young doctors at a meeting with representatives of the Young Doctors Association Punjab at his Model Town residence on 18 February 2013. However, Jinnah Hospital refused to reinstate 200 doctors — 55 Medical Officers, postgraduate trainees and house officers — despite written orders from the health authorities.
