Hong Kong (RAE - China) - HKCTU still excluded from main national tripartite bodies

The Hong Kong Confederation of Trade Unions (HKCTU) deplores the fact that despite being the second largest national trade union centre, it is still deprived of the right to nominate representatives to the Labour Advisory Board, the official tripartite consultation body, the Minimum Wage Commission and the Standard Working Hours Committee. Instead, the authorities favour pro-government unions by unfair and opaque election methods. In March 2017 Mr. Chan Hung Chi, a former high-ranking officer at the China Liaison Office in Hong Kong, was appointed deputy general secretary of the Federation of Trade Unions (FTU), which raised serious doubts among independent trade unions.
