Farzad Kamangar, a Kurdish teacher, human rights activist and a trade union member who had been sentenced to death for «endangering national security» in a five-minute long secret trial in 2008, is still kept in the Evin prison and risks execution at any time. His lawyer alleges that Kamangar suffered torture and ill-treatment while in custody. In December, Kamangar’s file was reported to be examined once again by the Supreme Court; however, later reports said that the authorities were threatening his imminent execution, along with other Kurdish activists.
