Nigeria - LAUTECH Teaching Hospital dismisses 256, redeploys 300 staff members following the ongoing labour dispute

Staff of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, organised a march to protest the sacking of 256 staff and deployment of 300 other workers of the hospital. Earlier in August 2017, the workers organised a strike action, joined by resident doctors in November 2017, a situation which made the Oyo State government stop their salaries. The Nurses and Midwives Association of Nigeria, Ogbomoso unit, informed the press that LAUTECH failed to consult dismissals and transfers with the union and that the names of the affected staff were passed at the entrance of the administrative department without an attempt to meet with the union. The state government in its reaction declared that the development was part of the holistic plan to restructure the hospital.
