Turquía - Legal action against union head

It was reported in September 2015 that the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office had launched an investigation into the Chairman of the Confederation of Revolutionary Workers’ Unions (DİSK), Kani Beko, on the charge of insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
According to media reports, the investigation was launched into Beko over remarks in which he criticised the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) government and Erdoğan over a suicide bombing in Suruç, Şanlıurfa province, on 20 July, for which he held them responsible. Beko made the comment during a press conference held the following day at the scene of the bomb attack. Thirty-four activists were killed and more than 100 were wounded in the suicide bombing carried out by the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
