“Workers have played a crucial role in the revolution’s success. ’Bread, Freedom and Dignity’, the slogan of the revolution, is the slogan shared by workers. The priority now is to establish new independent unions to defend the social and economic interests of workers as well as to defend their rights politically. It’s time to get rid of the Union Federation controlled and corrupted by the Mubarak dictatorship regime and to start a genuine democratic social dialogue social dialogue Discussion and co-operation between the social partners on matters of common interest, such as economic and social policy. Involves participation by the state where tripartism is practice. .” A key actor of the social struggle against the Mubarak regime, Kamal Abbas, from the Center for Trade Unions & Workers’ Services (CTUWS), asks for the support of the international union movement to build the capacity and potential of the new Independent Trade Union Federation in Egypt.
