On 28 September 2021, the Department of Justice of the Atyrau Region rejected the application for the registration of the Sectoral Fuel and Energy Workers Union (SFWEU) of its Atyrau branch. The authorities claimed that the union’s representative did not fill out the registration form correctly, failed to apply the union’s stamp to the application and was 0.5 tenge (less than 0.001 euro) short in paying the state duty. None of these claims were substantiated by the authorities. The SFWEU activists reapplied for the registration of the branch, submitting the documents in October 2021, but the Department of Justice of the Atyrau Region yet again denied the registration of the Atyrau branch of the union.
The union’s representatives made another attempt at registering in November 2021, but the application was again denied on no specific ground. On 23 December 2021, the SFWEU representative again submitted the set of documents for the registration of the union’s branch in the Atyrau region, but at the moment of writing no decision on the submitted documents had yet been taken.
