During the strikes that took place both in January and May 2016, the National Railroad Company (NMBS) imposed penalties on striking workers. In particular: for the strike action held in the beginning of January 2016 a worker, Jordan Croeisaerdt, participating in a picket in front of the Centre for the management of traffic, received a penalty amounting to EUR 1,686.89. It was only after a legal action undertaken by the trade union that the sanction was declared illicit. Workers participating in a wildcat strike between 25th and 30th of May got a fine of EUR 12.50 deducted directly from their salary as well as a severe reprimand in their personal files.
